family reunion) or individual unit for
private get-away. Off the well-beaten
tourist track, a surprise awaits you in
the foothills of the picturesque
Longfellow Mountains in the lake
district of western Maine.
Discover a
jewel-like encapsulation of what rural
living was once like in days gone by.
The 8th generation of your hosts'
family still calls it home. Marvel at
the 65 mile panoramic view of the
distant White Mountain range. Enjoy a
side of Maine few know of. The 1784
main farmhouse has three bedrooms and
two baths. An 1800 Cape Cod house has
three bedrooms and two baths. An 1830
former schoolhouse has two bedrooms and
one bath. Open year-round. No smoking,
and no pets (for our farm animals'
peace!).
Features and Activities
Talk with the animals: a flock of
sheep, a venerable but still playful
Shetland pony (Crispy Critter), our
personable donkey (Ebenezer), our
haughty Llama (Corcovado), and horses
Alex & Jet. Pick fruit for breakfast in
our high bush blueberry field, or at
neighboring strawberry fields and
orchards. Milk a cow. Culture up at
summer theaters. Hunt moose with your
camera. Hunt antiques with your
pocketbook.
Swim, fish, boat and beach
at the many surrounding lakes and
streams. Fabulous biking, hiking and
mountain climbing at nearby Mt. Blue
State Park. Take easy day trips to
Maine's scenic coast or its inland
wilderness sites. Ski downhill and
cross-country. Curl up before a cozy
open fire and read the published
diaries, journals, letters and poetry
of the hosts' colorful ancestors.
